If you happen to be in town…

My friend Britt just showed me this because we’re both doing Flash in a design class.

Richard Avedon
Sometime not so long ago (2001?), Richard Avedon became the first staff photographer for the New Yorker, a job he held until his death in 2004. The newest issue of the New Yorker arrived today, it being Tuesday. I happened to flip it open up to page 51 and see a familiar image: a particularly ethereal portrait of Jacob Israel Avedon made during his finals days by his son in 1972. It accompanies an article by Atul Gwande about aging. I would like to hear other opinions on this, but I feel like the photograph far outshines the piece, which seems far too iconic for an editorial context. Thoughts?
Urbancode is a local arts and literary mag that just got started up here in the District of Columbia. The premiere issue has just become available, and a photo of mine appears on page 43. Download the issue and check it out.
Four and a half months later, it turns out that an MFA program isn’t in the cards for this year. I received strong words of encouragement from a lot of great places and opted not to go to ICP in favor of hopefully attending a University program in the future. It was an interesting process and I learned quite a bit about what the possibilities are. So, we’ll put this to rest with one final look at the scorecard (until next year):
