Urbancode is a local arts and literary mag that just got started up here in the District of Columbia. The premiere issue has just become available, and a photo of mine appears on page 43. Download the issue and check it out.
Four and a half months later, it turns out that an MFA program isn’t in the cards for this year. I received strong words of encouragement from a lot of great places and opted not to go to ICP in favor of hopefully attending a University program in the future. It was an interesting process and I learned quite a bit about what the possibilities are. So, we’ll put this to rest with one final look at the scorecard (until next year):

This morning I went with some friends to volunteer at Poplar Springs Animal Sanctuary, a 400 acre farm where animals rescued from slaughter spend their time to hanging out, walking around, eating grass, rolling in mud, etc. It was a pretty great time. At one point, we were given the task of sort of rounding up the cows and moving them from one pasture to another. Most of the cows were compliant. Three were less interested in accommodating us. One of those three was fucking enormous.

This is exciting, at least for me. I have a new series almost ready to make it’s debut at my MAY 12 show with Shane Lavalette and Bryan Schutmaat here in DC. I shot it over 5 days while in Los Angeles last month. I chose the title “La Brea,” because it is a major street in LA that also, hopefully, conjures up the image of the famous tar pits of the same name (there’s much discussion of titles in the world of photography blogging, as I’m sure you know.) I haven’t quite finished color correcting and all that good stuff, but you can see the set in my flickr stream. And, as always, feedback is welcomed.

You live in Brooklyn and you use Verizon to connect to the internet. Creepy, right? Reveal yourself!
I dont think I was on my A-game, though it probably went well on the whole. All six people on the committee were welcoming and friendly, though it was still fairly intimidating. Of course, now I’m scrutinizing everything I said, and while I’m certain I could have articulated a couple of things much more clearly and effectively if I was less nervous, I’m also pretty sure that it wasn’t as muddled as I feel like it was.
The program seems amazing, even more so that I know that they only take 4 people. Though everyone in the School of Arts has certain classes together, the level of instruction you get when working in your discipline sounds phenomenal. It makes for a wonderful program that’s almost impossible to get into! So I’m guessing it’ll be a couple of weeks before I find out what the deal is, but I’m excited and nervous, and even more so now that I’ve been there and seen it all.
I just woke up and I’m sitting here in a daze of exhaustion having gotten up just a little too early after going to bed a little too late. I also have the hick-ups. My interview at Columbia is this afternoon, and It would be nice to go to school there.

oh la dee da they must have made some mistake I mean don’t they know who i am?
